CUE CLUB (PC), RELEASE INFORMATION
Last updated: August 1st, 2022
Cue Club (also known as International Cue Club) is the original Pool and Snooker simulator developed by Bulldog Interactive. It was first released on PC on November 10th, 2000, and initially published by Midas Interactive.
Gameplay Structure
Visually, Cue Club is played from a 2D top-down perspective, and control is by mouse input.
Game modes include Tournament, Quick Game, Two Player and Practice. There's also a 'Slam' mode that allows the balls to be picked up and thrown around using the mouse. Several game rules are on offer, including US and European 8-ball, 9-ball, Killer Pool, Speed Pool and Snooker. The latter can be played with the standard fifteen reds or a shorter game with ten reds. Rule variations allow for the 8-ball games and Killer Pool to be modified. Custom settings are provided for tables, cues and ball sets, plus options for different table speeds and various cueing styles.
A key feature of the game are the 'Virtual Chat Rooms' which allow the player to interact with AI characters through text dialogue. However, rooms can get busy, restricting access at times. The chat rooms are used to set up matches, although banter between players is commonplace. Winners receive an increase in reputation 'stars', which in turn increases the chances of securing games with higher-ranked opponents. A five-star reputation is needed to play the 'boss', and beating them will upgrade the membership card to 'silver' and unlock privileges. There are eight chat rooms in total to explore.
The game also features a tournament mode, with eight trophies to collect, and each trophy is linked to a chat room. Winning all eight trophies will unlock the Cue Club tournament, where the player faces all of the room bosses. Winning this tournament, in addition to defeating the bosses in the chat rooms, is the key to finishing the game. Upon completion, as a reward, the player's membership cards are upgraded to 'gold' status, giving full access to chat rooms and also maintaining the player's five-star reputation. To mark the achievement, a victory animation is played.
